Fairmount Park, Collinsville, IL, May 15, 2010

Driveby visit to Fairmount, on the way to Montana. It was a dark and stormy night.

This was the year Fairmount almost didn't have a meet, thanks to declining Illinois State revenues, and no money to pay for racing officials. At the last minute, however, some downstate politicians got involved and did some grandstanding, and, while of course doing nothing to resolve the State's fiscal problems, doing nothing being their specialty, at least forced the IRB to find money for racing officials.

It wasn't pretty. A minimal meet for minimal purses ensued. I thought I better get down there one more time, while there was still racing at FP. Who knows what next year might bring?

The scenic entrance.

Well, you don't see deals like this just anywhere!

The groovy paddock. Possibly the newest part of the entire track. Except for maybe the owner's private barn.

Wow! That ancient Diamondvision from AP still works! Sort of. You can see blobs running around on it, anyhow.

The groovy clubhouse and groovy grandstand.
