The horse racing season is off and running at Pocatello Downs. Sunday is the first day of the racing season.

The new Presidents says it’s especially important to come out and support the races this year. “Because with the historical horse racing not passing this year, at the voting season, you know it’s dying, it really is dying in Idaho, so we need people out here supporting us, saying you know what, the horse racing is important to the people of Idaho and we want to see it continue. It’s part of our heritage,” says Lukrena Schoonover, President of Pocatello Downs.

Horse racing was a fixture of the Treasure Valley for decades, but the sound of hooves on turf hasn’t been heard at the track since 2015. ... The future of Les Bois Park is something Ada County Commissioners are wrestling with. The property is part of some 240 acres that includes Expo Idaho, the Western Idaho Fairgrounds and Hawks Stadium. Ada County Commissioner Kendra Kenyon tells KTVB it’s unlikely horse racing will return to the track.
