The Washington Horse Racing Commission on Friday voted to approve a 44-day season for Emerald Downs in Auburn, Wash. Racing was originally scheduled to begin on April 18 but has been delayed because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The new opening day is scheduled for Monday, June 22. Emerald Downs will have 63 days of live racing in 2020. The meet begins Saturday, April 18, and concludes Sunday, Sept. 20.
Horsemen in British Columbia were pleased to hear Great Canadian Gaming Corp., which operates Hastings, has signed a five-year lease extension with the city of Vancouver. Hastings sits on the Pacific National Exhibition grounds, which is owned by the city. The agreement calls for Hastings to spend money on improving the backstretch. There also is an option to renew the lease for another five years.
